Due to continued success, a business services company in Cardiff have created a new role and are recruiting for a Financial Controller on a permanent basis.

Working closely with the CEO and forming part of the senior management team, this is a crucial appointment to ensure financial reporting to internal colleagues and external partners is accurate and timely, help inform commercial decisions and oversee the work of a small finance team.

Applicants will be comfortable to ‘manage upwards’, challenge existing processes and embed new ways of working across the business.

Financial Controller duties

• Lead and oversee the group’s accounting and finance function.
• Produce monthly management accounts with detailed variance analysis and present results to the Board.
• Prepare financial forecasts, budgets, and long-term projections.
• Line manage and develop two direct reports, including work review and ongoing coaching.
• Support investment and capital decisions and manage relationships with external lenders, ensuring compliance with existing covenants.
• Developing strong relationships with Private Equity Investors, funders and banking providers.
• Liaise with external accountants and auditors on statutory reporting and group tax filings.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory tax obligations, including VAT, Corporation Tax and payroll taxes.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes, systems and the financial controls framework.

Financial Controller person specification

• Professionally Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA) with post-qualification experience.
• Strong technical accounting expertise, with full ownership of balance sheet and P&L.
• Forecasting, planning and financial modelling expertise.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• High level of software and systems ability, advanced user of Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to communicate financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
